NFL Free Agency

Odell Beckham Jr. to the Browns, Nick Foles to the Jaguars, and so much more! The NFL offseason has been wild so far. The first day of the 2019 League year was March 13, and teams across the NFL are already making big moves. I’ll discuss some of the biggest splashes around football.

Absolutely nobody expected the Giants to trade OBJ. Especially because just last year, they signed Beckham to a five-year $90 million contract extension. Apparently, New York had a change of plan, and it looks like they will now begin the long process of rebuilding. On the flip side, this is huge for Cleveland. Just two years ago, the Browns were 0-16. Now they have Baker Mayfield, one of the most exciting quarterback’s in the league, and offensive weapons to go along with him. Add Odell, and you get a playoff team back in Cleveland.

Le’Veon Bell’s holdout with the Steelers is finished, and he has signed with the Jets. Bell infamously sat out all of last season due to the Steelers not giving him a contract he agreed with. He is still one of the better running backs in the league, and this could help turn around the Jets. The Steelers have now lost Le’Veon and superstar receiver Antonio Brown due to conflict within the organization.

Former Super Bowl MVP Nick Foles is now a Jaguar. The Jaguars were looking for a new QB, and they had to pay big bucks to get one. They hope that Foles can lead them to deep playoff runs, just as he did in Philly. Unfortunately for Blake Bortles, this is the end of his time as a starter in Jacksonville.

Another team already making big moves is the Baltimore Ravens. The Ravens had the best defense in the league last year, and it just got better. They just signed safety Earl Thomas to the highest paying contract for a non-quarterback in franchise history. Thomas is one of the top rated safeties in the NFL, and the Ravens want him to be a key player, and leader for their defense. Along with Thomas, they snagged Saints running back Mark Ingram, who is expected to start.

There have been so many trades and signings in just the past few days that it is getting hard to keep up with. Sure it’s the offseason, and football is not actually being played, but you can’t tell me this isn’t exciting!

College Admissions Scam

Imagine working your whole life to get into a good university, only for your spot to be taken by someone who cheated their way into it. Sadly enough, this really happened. In the biggest scheme of its kind, ringleader William Rick Singer used his company The Key to help secure the kids of wealthy families admittance to top colleges such as UCLA, Stanford, Yale, and Southern California. There are fifty people accused of participating in the crime, including parents, college coaches and officials, two famous actresses, and standardized test proctors. Singer received money directly from parents, who knew exactly [...]

NFL Championship Weekend and Super Bowl Preview

We just witnessed one of the craziest championship weekends ever this past Sunday. Both games were instant classics, and both went into overtime. You couldn’t have asked for anything better, well unless you’re a Kansas City or New Orleans Fan.                                             NFC Championship The Saints jumped out to a thirteen-point lead in the first quarter, but their offense slowed, and they only put up ten points in the final three quarters. The Rams overcame the early deficit and [...]

Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh

Brett Kavanaugh was nominated by president Trump to serve as a Supreme Court Justice. Kavanaugh was expected by most people to win the vote and be sworn in. But before that could happen, Dr. Christine Ford accused him of abuse. She alleges that Kavanaugh and his friend Mark Judge tried to physically assault her back in high school. Kavanaugh and Judge both immediately denied these claims, and Kavanaugh stated that he had “Never done anything like what the accuser describes – to her or to anyone.” The accusations were too big to go unnoticed, and they carried a lot [...]

Basketball Tryouts

The Saints basketball season is right around the corner. Tryouts for all high school players took place on September tenth through September thirteenth. There were three days of tryouts, and each was from seven to nine AM. The tryouts consisted of lots of running, shooting drills, and a scrimmage at the end. On the first day, we were handed a piece of tape with our name on it, which the coaches used to keep track of who was who. We opened up each tryout with a prayer, and then we stretched. After that we would run for about fifteen [...]
